There was originally going to be a 4th encounter, a pvp of the shepherd vs the party, but the DM decided halfway through to cancel it because of how obviously powerful the shepherd was, just by himself. The players played their normal level 9 characters and he made a shepherd. ![]() The player was doing this to demonstrate to a DM and his normal players shepherd's brokenness. The chimera was the only one that gave him a bit of trouble, but it was easy enough to keep your summons alive by casting healing spirit. That, then casts of tidal wave - aoe damage and proning for adv and hindering their movement - cleared the first two easily. You cast conjure animals, then use the bear totem aura, giving them more THP than the cr 1/4 wolves had hitpoints already. The first encounter was 10 goblins, the next 5 bugbears, the 3rd a chimera. The shepherd wasn't able to do this solely to healing - the 2nd OP part about it is the buffed summons. The shepherd druid comes out fine, the 3 people come out half-two-third HP. Recently, someone compared 1 shepherd druid to a 3 person party (fighter, bard, rogue) at level 9 across 3 different hard encounters (with normal CR rules). In this way, as long as the shepherd druid is up, anyone that falls to 0 will come back, even with the party falls to zero. When that happens, say someone takes 20 damage with 5 hp left, falls to 0, and then you heal them, by waiting to heal them you've left them with 15 more HP than if you had healed them beforehand. The key to seeing this is knowing the most optimal use of healing: in combat, only when someone falls to 0 HP. Using unicorn, it turns healing spells like cure wounds into mass cure wounds, simply trivializing combat. It's healing capabilities are the best in the game.
